Spitfire TR9

Original painting. Oil on canvas. 36" x 24".
Not available.

Supermarine Spitfire TR9, SM520, flying above the Battle of Britain Memorial at Capel-le-Ferne, near Folkestone, Kent.

The aircraft is operated by the Boultbee Flight Academy, who now offer the extremely exciting opportunity of Spitfire Flights and Spitfire Flying training.
It was originally built at Castle Bromwich aircraft factory in 1944 as a Spitfire H.F. IXe. If you go to the links page on this site, you'll find a link to the Boultbee website, where you can read all about this aircraft and the exciting things they offer.

The Battle of Britain memorial at Capel-le-Ferne, is owned by the National Battle of Britain Memorial trust and is a fitting tribute to the 'few' who defended this island from invasion in 1940.
There is also a link to their website on the links page for more information
and it's well worth a visit (and very moving), if you happen to be in that area.
I painted this picture before the addition of the newest building at the memorial, called 'The Wing' which has a roof that resembles the classic elliptical shape of the Spitfire wings (if you've already been there and wondered why I hadn't included it).
